About Dr. Bresler:
Dr. Bresler is a Professor at the College of Education, School of Art and Design, and School of Music, at the University of Illinois, and a Fellow at the Academy of Entrepreneurial Leadership. Bresler is the author of about one hundred articles and book chapters. Her recent books include the International Handbook of Research in Arts Education (Bresler, 2007, Springer), Knowing bodies, moving minds: Towards embodied teaching and learning (Brelser, 2004, Kluwer), The arts in children's lives: Context, culture, and curriculum (Bresler and Thompson, 2002, Kluwer) and International Research in Education (Bresler and Ardichvili, 2002, Peter Lang). Bresler is the co-founder (with Tom Barone and Gene Glass) and co-editor of the electronic journal International Journal for Arts and Education. She edits the book series: Landscapes: Aesthetics, Arts and Education (Springer). Recent awards include the Distinguished Teaching Life-Long Career Award at the College of Education (2004); the Campus Award for Excellence in Graduate and Professional Training at the University of Illinois (2005); the Edwin Ziegfeld Award for distinguished international leadership in art education by the United States Society for Education Through Art (2007), and The Lin Wright Special Recognition Award by The American Alliance for Theatre and Education.Bresler has been invited to give keynote speeches in 20 some countries in six continents. Her work has been translated to French, Portuguese, Spanish, Hebrew and German.
BIOGRAPHIES OF PAPER WINNERS
Wes Brewer is in his second year of doctoral studies in music education at Arizona State University. He serves as a teaching assistant for the music education department and as a staff member for the ASU Sun Devil Marching Band. He has also conducted the ASU Concert Band. Prior to his arrival at ASU, he spent six years in the Santa Cruz Valley Unified School District in Rio Rico, Arizona serving in various capacities. In 2006, he was selected as the Sedona Jazz on the Rocks "Outstanding Jazz Educator of the Year." He holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Arizona and a Master of Music in Conducting degree from Southern Oregon University.
Brandon Haskett is a doctoral student in music education at Arizona State University where his current research focuses on public school, university, and community steel bands. Prior to this year, Haskett taught band, strings, jazz combo, and steel band at Kenilworth School (K-8) in Phoenix, Arizona and served as the Coordinator of Instrumental Music for Phoenix Elementary School District No. 1. As the Instrumental Music Coordinator, he co-wrote the first instrumental music curriculum in the school district’s history. Haskett recently accepted a position as Assistant Professor of Music Education at North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega, Georgia.
Sean J. Bliznik is a first year theatre for youth doctoral candidate and teaching assistant at Arizona State University where his research interests include the development of the teenager and adolesence throughAmerican musical theatre as well as the construction of identity and gender in plays for young audiences. Sean earned his bachelor's degree in English literature and secondary education from Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire and his master's degree in theatre from the University of Central Florida. Sean has presented workshops and papers at the South Eastern Theatre Conference, The Florida Theatre Conference,the Arizona Thespians Conference, and the ComparativeDrama Conference In addition to his scholarly work, Sean also acts, directs, and stage manages professionally including for Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
