Mission

Place: Vision & Voice(PVV) is dedicated to opening dialogue between children and the adults in their communities by providing an artistic process focused on the assets, strengths and experiences children bring to their communities.
Ethical Standard
- A concentrated focus on building trust and reciprocity between participants and resident artists.
Community-based artists must develop a reciprocal trust with both the community and with the children and youth. Recognizing that trust is fragile and multi-layered, we pledge to be sensitive to balancing the needs of the participants, the needs of the social group, and our own needs. We will invest time and energy in researching and understanding the communities with whom we work and the various perspectives represented by our partners. We also believe that knowing and understanding are not the same thing, therefore we will strive to give up the “expert mode” allowing the individuals with whom we work to be the primary informants of their own existence.
- A commitment to the practice of representational ethics.
Our projects directly and procedurally address the moral of authenticity and ownership. PVV is committed to:
- negotiating difference within the performance processes while focusing on aesthetically reproducing the participants many voices and beliefs;
- trying to make the difficult nature of these process negotiations transparent within the performance/event itself;
- and the non-negotiable right of participants to have final say over what is created.
- A dedication to balancing process and product.
Like life itself, community-based theatre and performance practice is as much about the process as it is about the product. This balance demands flexibility in form and organization from both the artistic team and our community partners. We pledge to remain open, flexible, and proactive in order to be truly collaborative.
