Building an Expressive Pattern
Your journal assignment should demonstrate your ability to:
· Combine elements (motifs) into modules.
· Plan a way to organize modules into a regular pattern.
· Create a pattern that helps celebrate an event or situation. |
Review your previous journal assignments to determine whether you still
want to work toward the same criteria and whether the proportions and
profile you planned are still what that you think will work best to celebrate
the event or situation you’ve selected.
Your teacher may indicate what techniques you may use to make your patterns,
depending on the art materials available.
Develop and make a sketch of a pattern that reinforces the event or situation
you want to celebrate.
Will your pattern’s modules be made up of a few simple elements
or motifs? Or will you develop a more complex module to repeat in order
to form your pattern?
How will you organize the repetition of modules to make a pattern? (band,
reversed, alternating, staggered, overlapping)
Where will your pattern(s) be most effective on your vessel? (lip, neck,
shoulder, body, foot).
Checklist
1. I submitted a sketch of my pattern, showing motifs, modules, and organization.
2. I submitted a sketch indicating where I plan to locate the pattern
on my vessel.
