Theatre Education: A Resource of Practical and Project-Based Warm-ups/Theatre Games for K-12

Bomb and Shield
Text Box: Skills L ?[
Where we learned it: Creative Drama at NU
Ages: 4th grade and up
Materials: None

Process:

  1. Left Arrow Callout: ® _ As students walk around the room trying to fill in the empty spaces, ask them to identify someone in the room.  That person will be their bomb.  They must keep their chosen bombs to themselves.
  2. The students must then select another person.  That person will be their shield.  Again, they must keep their chosen shields to themselves.
  3. Explain that on the count of three, the students must continue to walk, but attempt to keep their shield person in between them and their bombs.
  4. Count to three and watch as the students move around desperately trying to keep away from their bombs.
  5. Process the activity after a few minutes of playing.  The students will make some very interesting observations.
