Theatre Education: A Resource of Practical and Project-Based Warm-ups/Theatre Games for K-12

One up, Two down
Text Box: Skills L6 ?q
Where we learned it: Creative Drama at NU
Ages: 4th grade and up
Materials: One chair for every student

Process:

  1. Left Arrow Callout: ® ? Divide the class into groups of three.
  2. In every group, one person must be standing and two must be sitting (hence the name of the game).
  3. Ask the students to change from standing to sitting or vice versa.  When one person in the group changes, the rest of the group must adapt so that there is always one person standing and two people sitting.
  4. Encourage the students to take risks and to be aware of the other people in their groups.

Variations:

  1. Have more advanced students improvise scenes as they play with reasons for standing or sitting.
