Theatre Education: A Resource of Practical and Project-Based Warm-ups/Theatre Games for K-12

Where we learned it: Devising class at GAC
Ages: 6th grade and up
Materials: None

 

Process:

  1. Left Arrow Callout: ®?_¯SOne student starts in the middle of the room and begins a sound and a movement. 
  2. Then another student adds on with her own sound and movement. 
  3. Every student watches and listens and eventually adds on to the machine until everyone is a part of the machine. 
  4. The teacher can then direct them to speed up, slow down, get louder, get softer, etc.

Variations:

  1. The machine is a great exercise to do with specific topics or themes, e.g., a machine of happiness, anger, Greek tragedy, Fosse dance style, prejudice.
