Theatre Education: A Resource of Practical and Project-Based Warm-ups/Theatre Games for K-12

Hug Tag
Text Box: Skills ? [q
Where we learned it: Creative Drama at NU
Ages: Kindergarten and up
Materials: None

Process:

  1. Left Arrow Callout: ? _ Clear the room of obstacles or find a good open space.
  2. Ask for a volunteer to be “it.”
  3. Explain that the person who is “it” will try to tag people.  If they tag someone, that person becomes the new “it.”
  4. To save yourself from becoming “it,” you can hug someone.  Define a hug as between two people (use sideways hugs if physical contact is awkward for the participants).
  5. To keep it fair, you cannot hug the same person twice in a row.
  6. Play.
  7. Keep all the participants aware of who is “it” at all times.  The “it” will change frequently.
