Theatre Education: A Resource of Practical and Project-Based Warm-ups/Theatre Games for K-12
Giants, Elves, Wizards
Wher e we learned it: Creative Drama class at NU
Age: 4th grade and up
Materials: None
Process:
Divide the class into two groups.
- This game is played like a giant version of “Rock, Paper, Scissors.”
- Each team goes off to their side and decides if they are going to be Giants, Elves or Wizards. Everyone on that team has to be the same thing.
- The teams line up back to back at a center line and yell, “Giants, Elves, Wizards” before turning to reveal to the other team what they are.
- Giants beat Elves, Elves beat Wizards and Wizards beat Giants.
- The winner team tries to tag members from the other team before they can get back to their side. If they catch anyone, that person joins the winner team.
- Play until everyone is on one team.
- If the two teams turn and reveal the same character (e.g., they’re both Wizards) then they greet one another like long-lost wizard friends and go back to their team’s side to play another round.
Variations:
- Change the name to be three things with a similar relationship in a subject that you are studying.
