Tableaux
http://artswork.asu.edu/arts/students/tb/13_00_tableau.htm

This is the old-fashioned way of doing a tableau. Many current texts dealing with creative drama or process drama have students create a tableau to help them think of character and situation. Then the students move into an improvisation.

Here, we're suggesting students create stories (another original writing project), then create tableaux to help an audience see the important moments of their story. There is a narrator who reads the story as the students move from tableau scene to tableau scene, very like the Christmas tableaux done for years.

This is simply one more way to get students to develop stories and deal with the content. The process is explained in the Theatre Book.
