| Scene Design/Environment
There are three things
we consider important about Design and Technical Theatre:
- That
students understand the importance and nature of the environment for
a theatre production and learn to envision environments for their dramas. See Imaging the Environment: See Imaging the Environment at http://herbergercollege.asu.edu/artswork/arts/students/tb/99_tg_11.htm
- That
students be introduced to the process of drawing a floor plan, a setting, and costumes. Doing
a floor plan can reinforce map making and reading skills, but this is
much less important for the drama activity than being able to image
an environment. We have found, though, that having students draw their
characters in costume is great fun and a real help in their imaging
and committing to the characters they will write into their scenarios
or will play in a scene. See Floor Plans and Set and Costume Renderings at http://herbergercollege.asu.edu/artswork/arts/students/tb/99_tg_12.htm
- That
students select and arrange objects or create elements for the performance
of scene work in school, with as little disruption as possible . See Finding the Setting and Props, Lights and Sound, and Costumes at School: preparing for a performance at http://herbergercollege.asu.edu/artswork/arts/students/tb/99_tg_13.htm
We have not dealt with
makeup except for the occasional scar, drawn with eyeliner.
