Desert Dance Theatre

Mission Statement:
Desert Dance Theatre’s mission is to develop, promote and present contemporary dance theatre through mainstage performances, educational residencies, children’s programs, and master classes that contribute to the artistic and cultural growth of the community, including thematic programs that speak to timely and relevant social issues.

Classification: Professional, Non-profit

Appropriate Grade Level:
Pre-Kindergarten to Pre-professional

Costs:
Fees vary depending on number, length, and type of services, number of artist/teachers involved, grants, sponsorships or ticket sales, distance, etc. 

Programs/Performances:
Lecture Demonstrations- 30-45 minute narrated presentations which may include demonstrations of dances from the current repertory, audience participation and discussion.

Music/Dance/Dramas 30-40 minute presentations performed in the Valley schools for K-6 in collaboration with String Sounds.  These programs convey positive messages through music and dance.

Sister Moses - The Story of Harriet Tubman-a 45 minute dance drama with a cast of over 20 performers including: dancers, singers, musicians, and actors.  School field trips are available on an annual basis usually during Black History Month in February.

Residency Classes:
Movement classes with live accompaniment oriented toward student training in modern dance, ballet, jazz, creative movement, improvisation, choreography, and repertory

Poetry in Motion-hands-on workshops geared towards K-12.  Students explore self-expression through creating words and movements in the form of a song and rap style rhythm.  Songs are written with the intention of positive choices and messages.  Specific request may tie into class curriculum.
