Exercise 1. Line By Dr. Mary Stokrocki
According to artist Paul Klee, a line is a dot going for a walk. Materials:
Pretend that you are a line walking. Draw 3 obstacle shapes of different sizes in different areas on the computer page (or a sheet of paper if you don't have a draw program). I used three coins for this drawing. Wander with your pencil around the page and go around the obstacles. Do not take your pencil or mouse off the page. You can start on the outside of the page and work inwards or travel around the shapes. Draw for about 5 seconds or make about 5-7 lines. Your movement should have some repetition to it. Now make some of the lines different thicknesses or repeated colors. You have created an expression map or an abstract drawing. Notice that some lines look peaceful and some look tense. See the student examples. What kind of expression do your lines suggest? |
