| Holidays: Communities Celebrate through the Arts The United States is a community of people united by its government. But our ancestors came from many different places - from Europe, Africa, Asia, South America, Australia. When our parents, grandparents and great-great grandparents came to America, they brought their traditions with them. The way they celebrate their holidays with special foods, family and community events is a very important part of their cultures.

and Gifts, One of the very special things about the United States is that we have a rich mixture of cultures. We can learn something about our own and our neighbor's ancestors and what they valued by studying their holidays. Here we are going to have fun with:
There are many other holidays to explore. Some are political like the Fourth of July and Cinco de Mayo - days to celebrate a country's freedom. Others are religious like Chanukah, Ramadan or Christmas. Perhaps other students, their parents or neighbors can help you research these holidays.
