Dramatizing the Story

2. Choose one photo for your group
With your teacher’s help, get into groups of 4 or 5. Remember, this is not about being with buddies. It is about making a good video play. It is good for the groups to have both boys and girls since most plays have both men and women characters.

Once you have your group, share your pictures and what you wrote about them. Then the real work begins. You should select one picture to be the focus of your drama. You want a consensus decision. Everyone should agree.

Which one? Maybe that guy can visit the people in the fancy house?

The way we made that work was to listen to everyone’s ideas. Then we chose a picture in which we could include many of the ideas that we had. That meant that some of us had to give up a pet idea. Others had to compromise, change ideas so they included some ideas from the others.

An example for us was choosing a picture of a store so that we could include the characters from several other pictures. These characters then became customers in the store.

Once you’ve chosen one picture. It’s time for each of you to become a playwright and make decisions about the characters in the play. Decide on the settings, where the play takes place. The characters will also need a problem that they will have to solve, the plot of the play. You’ll start by writing a scenario.
