Museum curators collect and take care of art and science
objects in Museums. They choose things from the collection (all the things
in the museum) for people to see. They make displays. They may be choosing
pictures, or sculpture (things to look at from all sides, 3-dimentional
things). They might also work in a science museum and select things like
dinosaur bones for patrons to see. They may have sounds or music as part
of their displays.
Museum curators also write up descriptions of what they
put in their displays. They want to help the patrons understand what they
are looking at. The curators want the museum visitors to appreciate, understand,
what they see.
Practice being a curator. Here are 10 pictures created
by school children from Tempe Elementary Schools. Select 4 pictures that
you find interesting, or 4 pictures that you think go together. Drag them
with your mouse into the display area. Then type in your explanation of
the pictures you’ve chosen. Tell why you chose them. Do you like
the story they tell? Do you like the colors? Do you like how things are
arranged in the space? What else did you like?
Click print if you want to share your display with others. How did you
like being a curator?
