Costume Designer

costume design

Designing costumes (deciding what they will look like) is one of the most interesting jobs in dance and theatre. The designer needs to find out about the dance or the play. He or she then needs to decide what the dancer or actor would wear. Will it be party clothes, or work clothes? What colors will look best?

Here are three figures. Print the figures and then draw clothes on them for a dance about being in school. What would their school clothes look like? What colors would you like them to be?

How about doing another set of costume drawings? Print the figures again. This time have the dance or play be about going to a fancy or an imaginary place like a party, the moon, or fairy land. Draw the clothes on the figures.

Do you like making choices about what a dancer or actor would wear? Perhaps you’d like to be a costumer.
